Idli Burger – A Unique Snack

A burger is a sandwich consisting of one or more cooked patties , placed inside a sliced bun.The patty may be pan fried, grilled, or flame broiled. Burgers are often served with cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles,  or chiiles; ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, relish, or “special sauce”; and are frequently placed on sesame seed buns. These are very much liked by Adults & kids both. Now the question is are they healthy for health as per their ingredients & process to make them.And we all know the answer is “No. I tried making burger with very healthy ingredients & also the process to make these “idli burgers ” is also in a healthy way so that kids & adults can enjoy them guilt-free. Idli is made of Suji/ Rawa. Tikki is made of mix vegetable& cooked in appe pan instead of deep frying. Dressing used in burger are coconut chutney, green chutney, southwest. It went hit in my family.

Ingredients for idli

11/2 cup Suji/Rawa

1/2 cup Curd

Salt to taste

Water to make batter

1 spoon Eno 4-5

Katoris (Bowl) to make idli

Preparation

In a bowl add suji, salt, curd & little water to make batter. You can keep for 10-15 minutes or overnight too.

Add Eno & water to make the idli batter consistency.

Garnish katoris with oil & pour batter to it.

Batter should be of sufficient quantity in each katori to give it a burger shape  Steam idli in steamer or kadaai for 10-15 min.

Let them cool.

Making of tikkis

Chopp veggies finely. I have used capsicum, cabbage, onion, carrot, boiled potato. Take quantity as per your requirement Mix them all add masala like salt to taste, 1/2 spoon haldi powder,1/2 spoon chilli powder.

Bind it with breadcrums/oats powder to form tikki.

Make maida batter to dip the tikkis & coat it with breadcrumbs Cook them on low flame in appe pan till they turn crispy.

Plating of burger

Divide the idli into half. Take care while cutting them.

Apply coconut chutney/ green chutney/ southwest dressing on it. Dressings you can use of your choice. It can be tomato sauce, mayonnaise or anything.

Place lettuce on dressing& then tikkis with some salad. You can apply dressing on the upper part of burger if you wish & place it on tikki Idli burger is ready to serve.
