Meethe Chaval (Sweet Rice) – An Indian Dessert


Shravan ( Saawan) is the fifth month of Hindu Calendar. It is the beginning of Chaitra Mas(month) and is the most auspicious month of chaturmas.

This month is a start of holy period of four months July to October. Lord Shiva and his wife is worshipped during this Shravan Month. Shravan Somvaar(Mondays) are considered special of this month.

Many devotees observe fast throughout the month or on Mondays of the month.So to worship Lord Shiva people offers milk, water, Prasad and bilva leaves .

Sharing the recepi which can be offered to Lord as Prasad.This recepi is little different than other recepi as in this rice is cooked in milk instead of water. SweetRice is very easy to make recepi and can be offered to Lord. It is also liked by all.


11/2 cup rice

21/2 cup milk

1/2 cup water

11/2  cup sugar

Saffron strands

Pinch of food colour( optional)

Almonds & pustachios for garnishing

2 spoon ghee

2 laung.


Wash and soak rice for 15 minutes

Boil milk in pan, add water to it Add soaked and strained rice. Give a stir.Add some saffron strands and food colour to it. Again give a stir

Cover it with lid and let it cook on low flame till milk and water is completely evaporated, with  stirring it occassionallyNow add sugar to it and stir

Sugar will leave cook till whole water is absorbed by rice

Now for tadka, heat ghee, add cloves and once it is heated give tadka to rice.

Garnish it with almonds & pistachios

Serve to lord and then serve hot to all
