Curd Rice – Healthy Yet Tasty Summer Food


Curd Rice is a popular and comforting dish, mostly popular in South India. It is also called as Dahi Chawal

On these hot summer days we want to have something light yet tasty and easy to prepare dish. This dish completely falls in the category as it is easy on stomach and tastes great if served with pickle and papad

This dish is popular with its name Thayir Saadam in Tamil Nadu and Daddojanam in Andhra Pradesh

It is simple recipe that includes Cooked Rice, Curd and some basic tempering. It is called as Comfort food for a particular reason as it is soft, melt in mouth and satisfying food, specially in summer. It can be served chilled or hot as per the liking


2 cup cooked rice

11/2 cup curd

2 spoon oil/ ghee

10-15 peanuts

1spoon urad dal

1/2 spoon mustard seeds

10-12 curry leaves

2-3 red dry chilli

Small piece of ginger finely chopped

Green chilli slits( as per your taste)

Salt as per taste


In a bowl,mix salt to rice and mash the rice.Now add curd to rice ,mix it well and keep it covered aside

In a pan, heat oil/ ghee, add urad dal,mustard seeds, dry red chilli,let them splutter.Then add peanuts,let it fry till it changes its colour.Add ginger,green chilli and curry leaves

Put the tadka in the curd rice bowl and mix it

Serve it hot or chilled as per taste
